Overview

Among the key decorative styles of the early 20th century, Art Deco arose just as the West's fascination with Egypt reached its peak; its signature motifs included numerous borrowings from ancient Egyptian design. It is particularly appropriate, then, that guests boarding 'Sun Boat IV' are greeted with a stunning Art Deco-inspired interior, conceived by A&K Vice Chairman Jorie Butler Kent and executed by Egyptian designer Mohammed Naoman. Panoramic, floor-to-ceiling windows on most decks grant sweeping views of the Nile's fertile shore; watch as grasses rustle in the wind, and vibrant, red lotus flowers appear in the fall. Rich, warm teak flooring graces all of the vessel's outdoor spaces, lending a regal but welcoming air. Modern comforts coexist in harmony with vintage decoration: for example, all cabins are air-conditioned and feature flatscreen televisions and direct-dial international telephones. A multi-language library also includes an Internet-ready computer for keeping in touch with home. Day 1 Luxor Start the day at the Temple of Karnak built, over more than a thousand years, by generations of Pharaohs. Transfer to your 5-star deluxe Nile cruise boat where you will be welcomed by the reception staff. Lunch will be served on board followed by a visit to the West Bank of Luxor to explore the Valley of the Kings. Complimentary cocktail and a selection of canapés will be served followed by a gourmet dinner. Overnight: Sanctuary Sun Boat IV. Day 2 Temple of Hathor / Luxor Temple Breakfast buffet on board while you cruise northwards to Qena. Enjoy a morning visit to the Ptolemaic Temple of Goddess Hathor in Denderah, complete with a massive stone roof, dark chambers, underground passages and towering columns inscribed with hieroglyphs. Afternoon tea will be served on board, from which your Egyptologist will guide you on a tour of the East Bank of Luxor, to the strikingly graceful Temple of Luxor dedicated to the God Amun. Dinner will be a Gourmet menu on board followed by a belly dancer, accompanied by a whirling dervish show. Overnight: Sanctuary Sun Boat IV. In the afternoon visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile-god Sobek. Tonight's dinner on board will be an "Egyptian Night" costume party for all guests, with a chance to dress up in traditional Egyptian "galabeyya".
