That’s me done – my challenge is complete. I am now back at Geneva airport, safe and sound and waiting to board my flight home to sunny Spain. Although I did not complete my intended 1,000 miles, I was somewhat inhibited by the rain on days ten and eleven, but I have done 800 miles exactly. I did the last few miles around Geneva this morning.
Thank you to everyone who has followed my adventure. Although it has been very tiring, it has also been very rewarding. I feel great, mentally as well as physically, and am ready to get back to work – which actually starts tomorrow with a two day trip to Mallorca (seemed like a good idea when I arranged it).
I am already thinking of what I can do next year, so watch this space!
Over and out.

I am on the home straight – what a fantastic feeling. I am also pleased to report that the scales in my hotel are telling me that I now weigh 90kg. That’s 6.5 kg less than when I set off (14lbs). This is a diet which I would recommend.
Today I rode 125 km from Neuchatel to Coppet on Lake Geneva (photo), leaving me a very short distance for the morning.
I have a little more cycling to do before I get to the airport tomorrow, but I am back in Geneva where I started. So, I am afraid that means there is just one more blog left in the series.

I am now starting to head back towards Geneva. Today I passed through the Swiss capital of Berne (photo) and to apparently the “flattest” part of the country, a place called Neuchatel. Nothing is flat in Switzerland!
I did 111km today and I am looking forward to getting to the finishing line on Wednesday morning.
I have really enjoyed this adventure, but next time I will definitely do more training for the mountains.

Happy Birthday to my daughter Izzy for Monday – 10 years old!
Today I had a great ride out to Grindlewald with a spectacular view of the north face of the Eiger. This vertical rock face is almost 1.5 miles high (see photo). Easy quiz: Which Clint Eastwood film was set in Grindlewald?
I purposely did 83km today, as that makes exactly 1,000km since I set off on the 24th.

Rain, rain and more rain! This is becoming silly. Last week the temperature did not drop below 30 degrees, and now it’s wet and 17 degrees at best.
I did some walking this morning. The boat you can see in the picture is part of a fleet that sail up and down the lakes as a form of transport for local people and they all have fabulous restaurants onboard. Now this is a sector Check Safety First should look at!
I did actually get out on the bike this afternoon and went to Thun (William Tell country). I only managed 57km today, but the total is creeping a little higher.

It has been raining all day today, so I was forced to take a much needed day off the bike.
So, not to waste the day, I took the train to Lauterbrunnen. Quick quiz – Lauterbrunnen featured in a James bond film, which one?
I walked 10km around the area. Normally I would have been able to see the Jungfrau (one of the main summits in the Bernese Alps), but today the weather just wasn’t good enough.
The waterfall in the photo is 500m (1,650ft) high. Apparently people base jump from these cliffs! Nutters.
I would definitely encourage anyone to have a summer holiday in the mountains. You would not regret it, especially if you like doing a bit of walking and exploring.

Today I cycled around Lake Brienz to a place called Interkirchen. I can’t convey just how stunningly beautiful Switzerland is – this morning was just perfect
On the way, I stopped in at a place called Meiringen. It is the place where Arthur Conan Doyle lived and where he wrote the last of his Sherlock Holmes mysteries (not a lot of people know that!). There is even a local beauty spot, the Reichenbach Falls, which features in one of his novels.
Technical stuff: only 75km today and for some reason even that was a struggle. Maybe I have used up all my available stored energy or perhaps I am just getting old!
My current total, as of today, 850km (528 miles).

This morning, I took a strategic decision to cut one day of relatively boring cycling (the view is not very scenic on the busy roads) and have come from Zurich to Interlaken by train. There is a guest house here that I have used many times. The Gasthof Schoenegg is run by a lovely family and the restaurant is wonderful.
I have decided to base myself here for a few days as I can do a number of daily rides in various directions
So, today I cycled from Gottmaddingen to Zurich via the Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen (see photos). It is the largest waterfall by volume in Europe as the entire Rhine river falls about 40 metres. The highest recorded volume of water flowing over the falls was during the spring floods in June 1965. By sheer coincidence I was there as a five year old for a family holiday. I can remember it really clearly, only 45 years ago!
Total distance so far: 500miles.

Today didn’t start very well. Somewhere I ate last night did not check safety first! Needless to say I had a bit of upset stomach this morning. So, I was off to the pharmacy for some Imodium (first time I have ever had to take it), but better safe than very sorry – and embarrassed!
So, I started the day with a very easy and lovely ride cycling along Lake Konstanz from east to west. The weather was gorgeous, as you can see from the photo.
For those of you still following my route, I travelled 112km (70 miles) from Bregenz in Austria to Gottmadingen in Germany. That’s country number six in total. It should be another relatively easy day tomorrow as I make my way back into Switzerland.
Total – 720km (450 miles) ouch!

What a great day! Well actually it started last night. I stayed in a beautiful gasthof in Bludenz, very pretty and a great supper.
Then, today, I did not one pass, but two! Both in the Arlberg region of Austria (for those who ski, I was very close to St Anton). As you can see from the photos it is a very scenic area.
Tonight I am staying, still in Austria, at a place called Bregenz on the lake of Konstanz.
121km cycled today (75 miles) with a 1,600 metre (5,300ft) climb along the way. I have now done 600km in six days and am back on track for my target.
